The Slurp has a little "balcony" area that kids will sometimes sit on. I decided I was going to play up there last night, and as soon as I did, I knew it was a bad idea. I figured I would end up wounded in one way or another. Sure enough, before I even had my equipment of, I smashed my head on a light fixture, cutting it open. It isn't a bad cut, but it was bad enough that I had to wash a little blood out of my hair whwen I got home. I got a photo of it that may or may not suck. I don't know yet, because I can't seem to find the USB cable to upload photos from my camera.
I've been having a huge amount of synchronicity occur lately. What happened in today's panel in relation to the drawing from two nights ago though, may be the coolest event I've had happen, as far as that sort of thing goes. If you need proof, or if you just want to look at it and say, "Whoooaaa, weeeeeird," go here and scroll down to 11:00PM. Then go here.

Thirty-some hours ago, I decided I had had enough. My little Mac Mini from, I believe, early 2006, just wasn't doing so well anymore. (How she survived The Great Beer Tragedy Of 2008, I may never know.) I backed up everything I could (read: everything I had the patience to) onto the external HD Liz and I bought, and popped in the OS disc to erase everything and reinstall.
It appeared to go smoothly until I ran into problems downloading Firefox. This was when I realized I hadn't put in the upgrade Mac OS 10.4 Tiger disc. (Yes, I am still that far behind. I'll get caught up whenever the Hell I can afford a new computer, which should be right about never.) I got the OS installed and running, downloaded Firefox, updated everything, installed the drivers, and there it was. Here it is!
Now, it's after 4AM, and I still need to draw today's panel, because this is yesterday's. I hate you computer. But I also love you.

I honestly don't know the first thing about The Suns. I had to search online in their roster for a couple of names I recognized, and voila! Viola! Voyla!!

There were a lot of people at the show, and it was really cold outside (for Phoenix). A couple of the bands I thought were playing ended up not playing, so that kind of sucked, but it was still a good show.

I've been getting caught up on my comics a lot the last couple of days. It's nice. I almost forgot what it feels like to read comics. Now I just need to tackle the copy of the first issue of Dodgem Logic that I picked up the other day.

Like I said, there are parts about Christmas that I like, and spending time with my family is one of them.

Fucking holidays. I get it. I really do. And it really is nice to have time in the year when everyone is in a good mood. But, really, is everyone in a good mood, or are most of us just putting on a happier face? (That's a genuine question that we'll never know the answer to, because if you're just putting on a happier face, copping to it would defeat the purpose.) Even if everyone truly is in a better mood, why can't we all just be a little bit nicer to one another all year long? And why does it have to cost money for everyone to be in a good mood?
Why do so many of us need an excuse to treat people respectfully?
I understand the spirit of it. I really do. I just can't help but feel that somewhere, in all of the smiles and glee, we're all getting ripped off. And I'm not just talking about the amount of money we have to spend on buying gifts (though that certainly plays into it). No, no. I'm talking about some big Rip-Off Of The Soul at work here. The grandest illusion of them all (short of Christianity, perhaps). And it sort of breaks my heart.
Why do you think suicides go up around Christmas time? They're taking all of our goddamned souls, to remind us that we'll never be good enough.
I get it. I really do. I just can't get behind it. Fucking holidays.

I know I'm a sappy bastard.
My brother, Randy Owens, emailed me the introduction for Screw Jeff Owens Year One, today. It's awesome. I'm really excited about it. Go to his blog and read it for free instead of wasting your money on the book when it comes out. He's a hilarious guy, and you won't regret taking the time to read it.

Through some crazy voodoo magic (known only as eating a lot beforehand), I ended up not having a hangover, despite the copious amounts of alcohol I consumed last night. Let's hope tonight goes the same way!
If anyone is interested in the progress of the cover for SJO Year One, it's almost done. Just needs some photoshoppin'!

I'm far too excited about this for words. The final version will have actual art on it. As with every issue of the first year, the cover will be a rip off of something. Just what it will be a rip off of is pretty heavy-handedly hinted at in today's panel.
And now, I bring you: Eight Months Ago Today.

So my girlfriend drew me a comic the other day, because she is amazing. I just got it framed, and I'm pretty stoked.
No, you don't get a better look at it.

Best part about this show was that Jay got Liz and I in for free, because he is fucking awesome. That, and the fact that EHG is a wall of sound.
A wall of sound.

One Year Ago Today (Make sure you scroll down, if you click it.)
Also, I just learned about this Runnin With The Devil soundboard, which is like a dream come true.

The best part about this movie so far (aside from the nun-rape, or course) is that there is a CD and a tanning bed, in a film based on a 1911 novel. It also has Hugh Grant, of course.

Apparently I missed the boat on this one, so, for the rest of you losers like me who hadn't seen it yet, here you go.

I've talked with two people about this subject today. It's depressing how much of a stranglehold this soon-to-be-minority group has on people. I guess that when they get you from birth, it's tough to make sure they don't have you for life.
I would like to take a moment here to thank my parents for raising me agnostic and allowing me to make my own decisions. Raising a child as any one specific religion is one of the more selfish things you can do.

I hadn't really forgotten how much I loved Paris, Je T'aime, but I had forgotten most of the movie. It was really nice to watch it again for the first time, and sharing it with someone you love makes it that much better. I will not deny getting a bit emotional in parts of the movie, which I recall doing last time, as well.
I have a small papercut (as if there's any other kind) on the knuckle of my right ring finger. It's dumb.

I will never get sick of making and eating food with Liz.
Shortbus is a movie that I would love to recommend to everyone under the sun, as it is an amazing movie, and is seriously deep and profound. BUT, it's a movie that has a lot of stuff on the surface that I feel like not many people would be able to easily overlook. If I had to say succinctly what it was about, I would say it's about life, love, and the interconnectedness of the vagina and the universe.

This is probably the worst drawing I have done in at least a month. I was extremely tired while drawing this. I damn near fell asleep before doing it, and it was between two and three in the morning, which is pretty late for me, these days. I'm a bit unhappy with the drawing, but in the end, I'm just glad I haven't given up on doing daily panels.

I was talking to Andy about how I can't wait to get this batch of Satan's Monk songs done, and I realized that there was a part of me that thought it meant I would reach some stopping point, or something. I then realized that all it meant was that I would begin work on a new batch of songs.
I guess my work is never done?

I've been working hard trying to get this bunch of Satan's Monk songs done. Half the album is going to be more death metal and half more stoner metal. I haven't had anywhere near as much fun with the stoner metal half, as it just doesn't seem to come as naturally to me, so after this, I don't plan on doing another stoner metal album, for this band, if any.

My God, it's going to be fucking Christmas in three weeks and a few days. Please stop this from happening.
Cinderella 2000 was pretty hysterical. There was one part in the film that dragged on a bit, but it was only a few minutes. This is definitely a film for anyone who likes hilariously terrible films.
